Facebook

Like almost every college student in America I use Facebook. After reading the article, I was a little suprised at how companies are using Facebook to get a feel for potential employees. I do not believe that this is fair because people should have a private place where they can view pictures and talk to their friends in peace without having to worry about prying eyes. Now, if Facebook is truly giving way to companies, something else will arise that will allow people privacy. Some people use Facebook for networking, however most people use Facebook as a way to keep in touch with friends. It is absurd that this should be used against people for finding a job. What is the difference between this and tapping phone lines?

  1. Valid point, Ryan. I remember when I was applying to colleges, we were warned that some college "scouts" would search for one's myspace/facebook profiles to see whom they'd be admitting. Whether or not this holds any truth, I wouldn't put it pass people to do so. And as for your final question--I have an opinion: the difference would be that people willingly put their information up on the internet KNOWINGLY, understanding the threats and possiblities, where as phone lines are in fact supposed to be private lines...just a thought. Great job!

  2. That may be true but for many people facebook is almost like a giant picture album. Who is it to say what they can and cannot keep? People should not have to worry about their private lives being pried into and Facebook for many reasons has turned into people's personal website.
